Eligibility Requirements

    1. Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in high school
      • Students with less than a 3.0 will be considered if they submit a one-page written explanation for the lower GPA and their plan for maintaining a higher GPA if admitted
    2. Be eligible to take MAT 3A and ENG 1A the first semester of the program
      • More information about placements can be found here
      • Placements can done through the STAAR exam, SAT scores, AP scores, CAASP scores, ELM/EPT scores, or passing the appropriate prerequisite courses
      • Please contact us or talk to your high school counselor for more information about placement*
    3. Agree to follow the prescribed pathway and participate in all cohort activities

Strong preference will be given to graduating seniors and college students with less than 30 completed units. Applicants who already have a bachelors degree will not be considered.

    1. Apply for admission to Hartnell College (you can apply for any term, Spring 2019 is ok)
        • Obtain a Hartnell Student ID #
        • Complete the 1 hour online orientation
    2. Complete the online CSin3 application form 
      • Most recent unofficial transcripts
        • High School transcripts required for all applicants
        • Current college students** should also provide their college transcripts
      • A letter of recommendation
      • Personal statement – In 1000 words or less, please answer one of the following essay prompts:
        • Prompt 1: What is your interest in computer science and why do you feel you will succeed in the CSin3 program?
        • Prompt 2: Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that has made a profound impact in your life. How has that helped shape you into the person are today?
    3. Participate in a group interview for admission with CSin3 staff. Students who meet eligibility requirements and have successfully completed steps 1 and 2 will be invited to interview for admissions.

**Students who have attended an institution other than Hartnell should arrange to have their official transcripts sent to Hartnell.

 

Application Period for Fall 2019:

September 1, 2018 through November 2, 2018

The application period for Cohort 7 – Fall 2019 will open on September 1, 2018 and will close on November 2, 2018. There will be a secondary deadline if space availability permits after the primary deadline and interviews.

Applicants must be Monterey County High School Seniors or Hartnell/MPC Community College students with less than 30 units who are or will be eligible to enroll in MAT 3A Analytic Geometry & Calculus I  in the Fall of 2019.

 

Dates and Deadlines

Application Deadline: November 2, 2018 at 11:59 PM. Our admission cap is 40 students. We will conduct interviews starting in November. Interviews will be held on a rolling basis until cohort is full.

Admissions Decisions: As we interview qualified students starting in November until cohort is full.

Mandatory Math Intensive Saturday Workshops: Early February 2019 – Late April 2019

Students must meet the conditions listed above in order to be considered for the program
