Eligibility Requirements

    1. Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in high school
      • Students with less than a 3.0 will be considered if they submit a one-page written explanation for the lower GPA and their plan for maintaining a higher GPA if admitted.
    2. Be eligible to take MAT 3A and ENG 1A the first semester of the program
      • More information about English and Math placements at Hartnell College can be found here.
      • Placements can done through the STAAR exam, SAT scores, AP scores, CAASP scores, ELM/EPT scores, or passing the appropriate prerequisite courses.
      • Please contact the Hartnell College Counseling Department at (831) 755-6820 or talk to your high school counselor for more information about English and Math placement*
    3. Agree to follow the prescribed pathway and participate in all cohort activities

Strong preference will be given to graduating seniors and college students with less than 30 completed units. Applicants who already have a bachelors degree will not be considered.

    1. Apply for admission to Hartnell College
        • Obtain a Hartnell Student ID #
        • Complete the 1 hour online orientation
    2. Complete the online CSin3 application form 
      • Most recent unofficial transcripts
        • High School transcripts required for all applicants
        • Current college students** should also provide their college transcripts
      • A letter of recommendation
      • Personal statement – In 1000 words or less, please answer one of the following essay prompts:
        • Prompt 1: What is your interest in computer science and why do you feel you will succeed in the CSin3 program?
        • Prompt 2: Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that has made a profound impact in your life. How has that helped shape you into the person are today?
    3. Participate in a group interview for admission with CSin3 staff. Students who meet eligibility requirements and have successfully completed steps 1 and 2 will be invited to interview for admissions.

**Students who have attended an institution other than Hartnell should arrange to have their official transcripts sent to Hartnell.

 

Application Period for Fall 2019:

Application status as of December 10, 2018:

We are currently accepting applications and inviting students to interview on a rolling basis until the cohort is full.

Applicants must be Monterey County High School Seniors or Monterey County residents attending Hartnell/MPC with less than 30 college units who are or will be eligible to enroll in MAT 3A Analytic Geometry & Calculus I  in the Fall of 2019.

 

Dates and Deadlines

Priority Application Deadline: November 2, 2018 at 11:59 PM. Our admission cap is 38 students and our waitlist cap is 12 students. We will conduct interviews starting in November with the students who submitted their applications before the priority deadline.  In late November, early December interviews will be held on a rolling basis until cohort is full.

Admissions Decisions: Mid-Late December for students that applied before the priority deadline. We will continue to interview qualified students until cohort is full and notify students the admission decision shortly after their interview.

Mandatory Math Intensive Saturday Workshops: 10 weeks. February 2019 – April 2019

Students must meet the conditions listed above in order to be considered for the program
